Kaplan College’s Pembroke Pines Campus Launches Computer Networking Technology Associate Degree Program

New Program Added to Better Serve Area Students

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla., May 11, 2010—The Kaplan College Pembroke Pines campus is now enrolling students for its new computer networking technology associate degree program.  Classes for the 18-month program begin May 12.

The program is designed to provide students with the knowledge, technical skills and work habits to pursue a variety of entry-level positions in the information technology field, particularly in network administration and computer systems support.  Graduates of the program can seek employment in positions including network operations analyst, network systems support, network specialist, network technician, network and computer systems administrator, and network systems and data communications analyst.

“The information technology industry continues to expand as reliance on computers and connectivity grows,” said Manuel Rosa, interim executive director of Kaplan College’s Pembroke Pines campus.  “Our new program helps create trained professionals that meet those demands in the Pembroke Pines community.”

According to the Occupational Projections, a report by the Florida Department of Workforce Development, Research and Analysis Division, network and computer systems administrator positions are expected to increase by 35 percent between 2006 and 2016.

Instruction will take place in a classroom and lab environment, where students can gain hands-on experience working with equipment they may encounter in a job setting.  Students will be taught to install and maintain computer networks, troubleshoot hardware and software problems, manage databases and develop Web pages.  Additionally, students will have the opportunity to develop their communications and customer service skills.

The new computer networking technology program will be led by Foyah Freeman.  Freeman has more than 10 years of information technology experience, and currently owns his own consulting company.  Prior to that, he worked as an information technology specialist for Streamline Computing Solutions in Lauderhill, Fla.  Freeman also has worked as an information technology instructor at local colleges for the past seven years.  Freeman holds a master’s degree in information technology from American InterContinental University and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Brooklyn College.

The Kaplan College Pembroke Pines campus is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS).  ACICS is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency.
