Kaplan College Hagerstown Campus Graduates First Bachelor’s Degree Students

    Graduation Ceremony Sunday

HAGERSTOWN, Md., April 26, 2009—Kaplan College Hagerstown campus will hold a graduation ceremony on Sunday, April 26, for 123 students.  The ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. at North Hagerstown High School at 1200 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.

This ceremony marks the campus’ first students to graduate with a bachelor’s degree.  Kaplan College launched its first bachelor’s degree programs in July 2007, making it the only school in Washington County to offer bachelor’s degrees to students who have not already attained an associate’s degree.

“We are extremely proud to have our very first bachelor’s degree recipients,” said W. Christopher Motz, president of Kaplan College’s Hagerstown campus.  “These individuals have achieved a significant milestone and will have an even greater opportunity for new careers and advancement as a result.  For Kaplan College, today marks the culmination of our 71-year evolution from a secretarial school to a four-year college.”

Students will be recognized for earning bachelor’s degrees, associate degrees or certificates in one of 17 programs in the allied health, business, information technology, design, legal or criminal justice fields.  According to the Maryland Occupational Projections, a report by the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, Office of Workforce Information and Performance, medical assistant positions are expected to increase by 38.6 percent, medical transcriptionist positions by 24.3 percent, legal assistant positions by 19.9 percent and medical secretary positions by 19.9 percent from 2006 to 2016.

Kaplan College is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS).  ACICS is listed as a nationally recognized accrediting agency by the United States Department of Education and is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
