DR. JOHN DANAHER TO HEAD KAPLAN HIGHER EDUCATION SCHOOL OF NURSING

School to Leverage Online and On-ground Nursing Programs’ Strengths

CHICAGO, February 11, 2009—Kaplan Higher Education appointed John Danaher, 50, a board certified physician and healthcare executive, as president of its School of Nursing.  The Kaplan Higher Education School of Nursing was formed to align the organization’s online and campus-based nursing programs, creating a more comprehensive curriculum for individuals interested in pursuing careers in the nursing field.  Danaher reporters to Jeffrey J. Conlon, president of Kaplan Higher Education.

Danaher has more than 20 years combined experience as a physician, educator and leading executive.

“John has a comprehensive background as a healthcare educator, entrepreneur and as a respected physician, positioning him well to lead our School of Nursing,” Conlon said.  “His understanding of both patient needs and the shortage of qualified nursing professionals will be instrumental in our continuing to build leading nursing programs.  This will provide our students a better opportunity to attain a quality education that puts them on a career path to long-term, prosperous employment options.”

Most recently, Danaher served as the executive vice president of HowStuffWorks, a division of Discovery Communications, Inc.  He also is cofounder of healthcare e-learning company QuickCompliance, which provides a full suite of multimedia offerings to hospitals, health plans and other healthcare-related organizations.  Danaher’s previous roles include that of executive vice president of WebMD, as well as instructor at both Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Public Health.

Danaher holds a master’s in business administration from Stanford University as well as a medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School.  He completed his residency and chief residency in internal medicine at Stanford University Medical Center.  He also has a bachelor’s from Trinity College in Hartford, Conn.
