Kaplan Career Institute, Cleveland Campus Launches New Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Diploma Program

    Program Emphasizes Hands-on Training

BROOKLYN, Ohio, Oct. 8, 2007Kaplan Career Institute, Cleveland Campus is now enrolling students for its new diploma in heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC/R).  Evening classes will begin on Oct, 11.

The program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and technical skills required to pursue an entry-level position in the HVAC/R industry. Through this program, eligible students can acquire the education and training that will assist them in preparation for the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI) EPA Technician Certification Exam.

Qualified instructors with industry experience will help students learn about troubleshooting and installing various domestic and commercial heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems.  Students will have the opportunity to train with various types of equipment used in the HVAC/R field. HVAC/R professionals typically perform duties such as installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems.

“Kaplan Career Institute is one of the few postsecondary institutions in the Cleveland area to offer an HVAC/R program and we are proud to help fill the local need for more professionals in this field,” said Jeffery White, HVAC/R program director at Kaplan Career Institute, Cleveland Campus. “Our new career-focused program emphasizes hands-on experience, giving our students an opportunity to train for this growing field.”

According to the Cleveland Metropolitan Statistical Area Occupational Employment Projections Report, a report by the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services, Bureau of Labor Market Information, positions for heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration mechanics and installers are expected to increase by 26.7 percent from 2004 to 2014.

"To accommodate the new program, the school also recently expanded by 5,000 square feet to include a new library, administrative offices and three new classrooms devoted to HVAC courses. To help ensure graduates of the new program have been properly trained, the school established an advisory board to help oversee the HVAC/R diploma program. The advisory board, which includes Cleveland-area HVAC/R professionals and employers, will analyze the program’s curriculum to assist in keeping the program up to date with employer and industry needs.

Kaplan Career Institute, Cleveland Campus is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT). The campus currently offers six diploma programs including medical assistant, medical office specialist, pharmacy technician, electrician, computer numeric control technology, and heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC/R).
