Bauder College Expands To New Facility In Historic Atlanta Buildings

New Campus Nearly Doubles School Size for Additional Students and Programs

Atlanta, GA, July 22, 2004 – Bauder College, one of the Southeast’s leading career training institutions long recognized for its fashion merchandising and design programs, today announced it has moved to a new location at the intersection of Atlanta’s Midtown and Downtown Markets.  The new campus is a custom build-out of two historic buildings which are on the National Register of Historic Places and are recipients of the 2002 Atlanta Urban Design Commission Award of Excellence for Historic Preservation.  Located at 384 Northyards Blvd., the site increases the size of the school from 33,000 to 60,000 square feet.

The move brings Bauder College to Atlanta’s origins in the Northyards, built in the early 1900s as shops and warehouses for the Southern Railway Company.  The campus includes a roundhouse built in 1925 to serve passenger trains, one of only two remaining structures of its kind in the Southeast.  The facility also has ten computer labs featuring two hundred terminals, as well as a career services center and student lounge.  For fashion merchandising and design students, the campus also features a Visual Imaging Center for fashion shows and galleries to display student work.

“This new facility in Atlanta’s historic district, created specifically for Bauder College, provides our students with a high quality learning space and will support the future growth of our school,” said Jo Ann Wilson, President of Bauder College.  “Our downtown location will enable us to build relationships with some of Georgia’s top performing companies and identify additional employment opportunities for our students.”

The campus provides space for new associate and certificate programs in Medical Assisting, which the college will introduce in August 2004.  A clinical lab was built in the new facility to support these programs.

Founded in 1964, Bauder College offers a variety of programs designed to provide students with career-oriented curricula, hands-on training and externships.  Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), Bauder College offers students Associate of Arts Degrees in Fashion Merchandising, Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Criminal Justice, Information Technology, and Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing or Management.

In December 2003, Bauder College became a four-year institution and was approved to award the Bachelor of Science Degree in Business.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony to welcome the community to campus will be held on Friday, July 23 at 10:00 a.m. The guest speaker for the event will be Boisfeuillet Jones, Jr., Publisher and Chief Executive Officer of The Washington Post.  For more information please call Bauder College at 404-237-7573.
